The Westbrooks

About

November 17th, 2006 . by webmaster

TheWestbrooks.com is the personal Web site of Bruce and Leslie (Lisa) Westbrook. This is us without regrets or the need to ask forgiveness. There may be times where the content may be ambiguous or contradictory but we are all complex individuals, with all the issues that come with life’s experiences. If the content comes as a suprise at times, it simply means that we’re continuing to grow and change, and isn’t that what life is all about?

We are not here to make any world-changing philosiphical remarks, to defend our personal decisions in life, to spew rumors or gossip, or to make any real difference in anyone’s life. We’re simply here to enjoy the pleasure of talking about ourselves and allowing our far-away friends and family to have a glimpse into our lives and our thoughts.

To that end, this site is just what it is… a very small footprint in a very large world.

The Official TheWestbrooks.com FAQ

Why did you start this site anyway?
Bruce created a site back in June 1997 on our Earthlink free webspace to learn HTML. He’s a geek at heart, and it was something new and fun to do. Back in the “early days” it was just for fun to see if he could string some HTML together and see if anything came out on the browser end. In March 2000 we purchased our own domain name and he began coding Version 2.0 of our website to improve his skills with his HTML hobby.

Then in October 2003 he revamped the site again and out came Version 3.0 of our site. Lisa started taking an interest in putting her own information on the site at that time as well. So we began using this as a tool to document parts of our life and share it with family and friends. So in a sense our website became an early adapter of “blogging”, something that’s done almost without thought today.

We believe that personal growth doesn’t fully occur unless you take the time to look over where you’ve been in order to appreciate where you are — and ensure you’re still headed in the right direction. So many people in this world seem to constantly repeat the same mistakes without learning after the first, second or even third time. We’re in no means perfect in that sense, but hey, at least we’re aware of that fact!

:)

Ok, with all that being said, this site is a tool not only to keep family and friends updated but to also provide some insight into ourselves. Like a journal, its only a snapshot in time but it’s a great place to start. Hopefully it will be of value not only to us but sometimes to you as well - whether it makes you laugh, cry or snicker.

:tongue_rolleye_ee:

Then in July 2005 we introduced Version 4.0 - known now as the “Purple Haze” revision. This time around we changed the complete look of the site to a lighter, happier color tone, based on Lisa’s favorite color (purple) and her nick-namesake (lilac). So we welcomed our new Purple Haze overlords….er….we mean….Version 4.0 of TheWestbrooks.com!

Up until that time Bruce used the following tools to make the site:

  • The Soft: UltraEdit32 and PhotoShop
  • The Hard: Dell Dimension 8100 PC, DSL 1.5mb Internet connection
  • QA Testing: IE 5, IE 6, Firefox

Now today we welcome in yet another new era for TheWestbrooks.com! Today being (a cold day in hell…er…I mean…did I say that out loud?) November 21, 2006 in Columbus, Ohio, we release Version 5.0 of the site! We now use WordPress v2.x and K2 for the blog and Picassa Web for the photo albums, along with several plugins and such.

So there you go…the basic FAQs behind our family website. Now off with you! Go browse to your heart’s content!

Wheeeeeee!!!!!!

    Dear Leslie,
I see that you suffer from migrains, as do I. Here are some home remedies that work for me. Ice packs on the back of the heck, and Asprin. My doctor told me Asprin works better for migrains, or theres peanutbutter, that works OK, but not great. I find if you stay away for processed food, like bacon, and high salt content, it work to keep migrains away.

    Hi Cousin Lisa,
I was very excited to see the pictures you posted on picasa. I too am descended from Levi Moses Wright. The website above shows my line. I didn’t realize our Ruben Carr was a captain. Those are great pictures, thanks! I’d love to hear from you.

I represent a different set of The Westbrooks who are interested in purchasing the URL. Would you have any interest in selling TheWestbrooks.com?

    Thank you,

    -Michael
