Linux is not Windows…
…and besides, how do you compare a product (Windows) to a rather nebulous concept (Linux)?
Just a brief post to make mention of a rather decent post written by some anonymous geek (his words, not mine) that nicely states the conceptual issues behind why Linux has had such a difficult time getting a strong foothold in the user desktop environment — that is, the “mainstream” user desktop environment, meaning non-geeks.
He goes on to talk about how Ubuntu has, for reasons beyond him (and me at this juncture), somehow managed to achieve some great strides toward this goal. I believe it has something to do with the Ubuntu’s method of actually allowing people to use it to get work done, easily, without getting in the way and without having to geekify the process. What are your thoughts?
