April Fools

Well, Lisa got me good this morning. I’m in the shower and she walks in with a disheartened look on her face.
“Honey, the basement’s flooded.”
Well, it had rained quite a bit yesterday and all night, so it wasn’t out of the question. My own face dropped. We have all our moving boxes stored in the basement plus camping equipment and other stored items. “Did it make it all the way to our stuff?”
“No, not yet.”
Whew. Well, at least I can finish my shower before putting on some old clothes and investigating the problem. For the next 10 minutes in the shower I’m running through a checklist of things to do next. Check the sump pump. Get the wet/dry shop vac out. Move the boxes further from the water. Be careful and don’t get electrocuted while standing in the water and messing with the sump pump. Etc…you get the idea.
I finish up in the shower, get dressed in some old clothes and head downstairs. Lisa sees me. “Are you ready to check it out?” she asks with a solemn look on her face.
To the basement we go, with her in the lead. Well, at least I don’t see any water at the bottom of the steps - that’s a good sign. It hasn’t gotten too far at least. Lisa reaches the bottom of the steps, turns towards the sump pump. I get to the bottom at which point she turns to me with a huge grin on her face. “April fools!”
Doh!
